The research activities of the Institute for robotics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in Maribor are directed towards robot design, advanced position control and force control algorithms, implementation of different types of electrical actuators in robots and construction of robots. Examples of advanced position control methods, which were theoretically treated and are currently in the phase of practical implementation on the robot, are Variable Structure control method, Computed Torque method modified with implementation of the Neural Network and disturbance observer based method. Transputers are used in order to achieve short real-time execution times for control algorithms. In our laboratory a three axes robot with SCARA configuration and a five axes Cartesian robot were built for research and teaching purposes. In cooperation with industry an industrial robot (YURI) and a robotic cell (MAGNET) were also built. |
