How to reach Slovenia
The
local organizing committee would like to present to all EPE-PEMC 2006
participants a few links, which will help you to make your travel to
Portoroz easier, or will even convince you to prolong your stay in
Slovenia.

By plane
The nearest airports are the International Airport of Ljubljana, Slovenia ("Brnik" - 20 km northwest of Ljubljana and 150 km away from Portoroz) and the International Airport of Triest, Italy ("Ronchi" - 80 km away from Portoroz). Ljubljana Airport at Brnik is connected by frequent flights to all major European airports. It is 20 km away from Ljubljana city center and can be reached by busses running at the time intervals of one hour. Bus stop is at the front gate of the airport and its final stop is at the Ljubljana main railway and bus station (these two are together). The bus drive takes about 45 minutes. Tickets are obtained at the driver and have to be paid in the local currency Slovenian tolars (SIT - Banknotes and Coins). So, do not forget to change (Exchange Rate - Bank of Slovenia) some money already at the airport. Arriving to Ljubljana city, travel to Bernardin/Portoroz may be continued by bus directly to Portoroz or by train to Koper, where a local bus to Portoroz should be taken. Another option of air transportation is to fly to the Trieste Airport at Ronchi. Ronchi airport is 80 km away from the Congress Center Bernardin, where the border from Italy to Slovenia has to be crossed. You can also use Venecia airport - for transfer to Congress Center Bernardin please contact Albatros.
Shuttle
Shuttle transportation before the conference will be organised from Ljubljana Airport (Brnik) and Trieste Airport (Ronchi) to Portoroz based on interest. A return transportation will be organised after the conference. If you are interested in shuttle transportation fulfill it on the Accommodation form.

You can reach Slovenia and Portoroz via major highways from Italy, Austria, Hungary (via Koper), and Croatia (via Rijeka or Pula). You may want to consult the online route planner application of map24.com. Kindly note that the highway is not free of charge, Bernardin Congress center owns a large parking place (free of charge) uphill behind the Congress Center.
The approximate taxi fares are:
| From | To | Price (approx.) |
| TRIEST (airport)/Italy | Portoroz/Slovenia | 80 EUR |
| TRIEST (bus or railway station)/Italy | Portoroz/Slovenia | 60 EUR |
| LJUBLJANA (airport)/ Slovenia | Portoroz/Slovenia | 110 EUR |
| KOPER/Slovenia | Portoroz/Slovenia | 25 EUR |
| VENICE (Marko Polo airport)/Italy | Portoroz/Slovenia | 160 EUR |
By train
Slovenia can be reached by train as there are regular connections with Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Germany, Italy, Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro and Switzerland. There are no direct lines to Koper, so you have to get to Ljubljana or Triest (Italy), from where you can reach Koper by local train or bus. Portoroz cannot be reached directly by train (as the coastal railway line terminates in Koper), but the 15km route between Koper and Portoroz is well serviced by bus and taxi. You may want to consult the Slovenske železnice (Slovenian Railway Company) website for details. The Koper main bus station (phone: +386 5 639 52 69) is situated next to the Koper railway station (phone: +386 5 639 52 63).
By bus
It is also possible to reach Slovenia and Portoroz from neighbouring countries by bus. Internal bus transport is well organized and relatively inexpensive. There is several buses running daily between Ljubljana and Portoroz, the journey takes just under 3 hours. You may want to consult the Ljubljana bus station website for details. Buses start from the Ljubljana main bus station and the final bus station is Portoroz. When arriving to the Portoroz bus station (located in Lucija), you are still relatively far from the Bernardin Congress center (see map), not within a short walking distance. At the Portoroz station, the travel should be continued by the local bus connecting Lucija and Piran (bus no. 3). The most convenient exit station for Bernardin is indicated on the map (this station is located on a hill). The drive with the local bus will not take more than about 15 minutes (the bus stops frequently at short distances).
